Being the son of a BAFH (my dad got this name due to his accomplishments in sports namely Basketball, Athletics, Football, Handball) I remember taking to sports from my very early days. We, I and my younger brother tried to make the most of him being around by tagging along for all his local tournaments of Basketball & Handball. And then we used to get hardly a couple of months with him in the whole year.
Given the environment it wasn’t surprising that we took to a lot of games and sports very early in life. Scrabble was introduced by my dad when I was 13-14. AN interesting board game which helped enormously in your thinking abilities apart from give a boost to your word power! I took to it very keenly and soon got hooked on to it. With every game, every day I was getting better. On weekdays after dinner and on weekends almost through the day…it was scrabble time at our home. Different times, different teams…I would end up winning against all possible combination at home!
Once out of school (and rather unfortunately out of home) I lost touch with scrabble. By this time I had taken basketball very very seriously, making it to the Delhi region team for the school nationals (quite an achievement in the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sports setup) and later became part of my college basketball team (American College, Madurai, 1994-1997). Once into my MBA had to hang-up my shoes. It was a good10 years that I had been playing serious basketball…but then priorities changed.
Time was flying, soon I was deep into the colourful, myriad world of advertising starting off with Lintas (currently Lowe), Bangalore. During my years there I got re-introduced to Scrabble. Wonder why re-introduced? Because this was the computerized version! I realized that people used to take a liking to a variety of computer games, from the very basic to the very complex. I did too…But moved on from all of them except Scrabble!
A few years went by…almost 8 to b precise…I changed jobs from Lowe to JWT, Mumbai…later profiles from advertising to marketing. This took me to Deccan Aviation (Air Deccan), Bangalore and currently with Kingfisher Airlines, Mumbai.
Sitting at my friend Harish’s place I hit upon a set of games CDs and started going through it. A variety of games caught my fancy but needed to be installed and also got boring in a few minutes. In one such CD guess what I found???? Scrabble!!!! Memories of the last 15 years flashed past in a few seconds….I quickly downloaded it onto my laptop and immediately started playing. Biggest challenge according to me is to beat the computer keeping it in the smart mode. Soon scrabble became my partner…every morning and evening I would take up the challenge trying to beat the computer at least once. Over the last few days during our train journeys to & from office I have introduced the game to Harish as well.

By the way even while I was writing this bit, you guessed it right, I was playing Scrabble! And this time beat the computer too!
